The shape of a diamond refers to its physical appearance; each shape has its unique characteristics which make every diamond special in its own way. Ten most common shapes of diamonds are Round, Princess, Cushion, Emerald, Oval, Radiant, Asscher, Marquise, Heart and Pear.
Diamonds are available in a variety of colors like steel gray, white, blue, yellow, orange, red, green, pink to purple, brown, and black which plays a vital role in their quality. The less body color in a white diamond will reflect more, thus the greater its value.
Cut refers to the diamond’s proportions, symmetry and polish. The cut grade of a diamond has a direct impact on its quality and about how well a diamond’s facets interact with light. The cut scale for standard by GIA for round brilliant diamonds in the D-to-Z diamond color range contains 5 grades ranging from Excellent to Poor.
The unit which is used to measure the weight of the diamond is Carat. A metric carat is equal to 200 milligrams. A single carat can be subdivided into 100 points that allows measurements to the hundredth decimal place in a very precise way.
The Absence of Inclusions and Blemishes inside or on the surface of a diamond refers to its clarity. The GIA Diamond Clarity Scale has 6 categories which are sub divided in 11 specific grades that are Flawless (FL), Internally Flawless (IF), Very, Very Slightly Included (VVS1 and VVS2), Very Slightly Included (VS1 and VS2), Slightly Included (SI1 and SI2), and Included (I1, I2, and I3). More clarity means higher the value.
The quality of cutting work to achieve a smooth, glass-like surface for each facet of diamonds is known as polish. This degree of smoothness is measured by Gemologists under 10x magnifications where they check the remnants of imperfections the cutter may have left behind. GIA grades for polish are Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair or Poor. Finding polishing defects is very hard for Excellent to Good polish grade diamonds and is not visible through naked eyes.
Symmetry in diamonds refers to the exactness of shape, overall outline, placement and alignment of its facets. Diamond with good symmetry allows light to travel through the diamond as it should. The grade of symmetry is based on the visibility and presence of deviations at 10x magnification. The grades define for diamond symmetry are Excellent, Very good, Good, Fair & Poor.
All of our diamonds are graded by the 3 most reputable diamond grading laboratories in the world: GIA, AGS & IGI.

A depth of a diamond is also called its “height”: it is the distance measured between the top-table facet to bottom-culet facet. It plays a vital role in the diamond's appearance for its size. On the other side, depth percentage is the diamond’s depth divided by the width of the diamond which directly impacts on how light reflects off the facets in the diamond.
The flat, square-shaped facet on the top of the diamond is called the table & table percentage in diamond is calculated by dividing the width of the table by the overall width of the diamond. This helps jewelers while grading a diamond’s cut.
Fluorescence is the tendency of a diamond to emit a soft colored glow under ultra-violet (UV) light (i.e. sunlight or backlight). Once the UV light source is removed, the diamond stops fluorescing. Fluorescence does not have a grading factor like the GIA 4Cs (color, clarity, cut, and carat weight). GIA considers Fluorescence as an identifying characteristic of a diamond.
Girdle is the outer edge or thin perimeter around the widest part of a diamond that separates the crown (top) from the pavilion below. It reduces the risk of damage while working on the diamond. A standard round diamond has 16 "valley" and 16 "hill" positions, where the girdle rises and falls. The girdle determined by the GIA are Extremely Thin, Very Thin, Thin, Slightly Thin, Medium, Slightly Thick, Thick, Very Thick, Extremely Thick.
The bottom point (tip) of a diamond is known as a Culet. A diamond can either have a pointed culet or a flat surface that adds an extra facet to the diamond.
Every diamond has its unique proportion, which is also used as its identification. Diamonds are measured with a precision diamond instrument. Length to width ratio & depth of the diamond can reflects their elegant shape that can helps you while purchasing a diamond.

Pavilion angle is the angle between the girdle plane and the pavilion main facets of the diamond. A deep pavilion and a flat crown could portray a deceiving favorable depth percentage. Pavilion angle in diamonds plays a vital role in their appearance.
Crown is the portion of the diamond between its girdle and its table & the crown angle is the angle between the bezel facets and the girdle plane. The Crown angle in the well-cut diamond should be between 33 to 35 degrees.
Crown height percentage in diamonds can be calculated by dividing the actual height of the crown by the average diameter. Measurements are rounded to the nearest .01 millimeters. Crown percent can be calculated by using the formula i.e. Distance from diameter to bottom- (culet facet / diameter)'.
Pavilion Depth Percentage is the ratio of pavilion measurement to the total diameter. It can be calculated as: Pavilion Depth Percentage = Pavilion Measurement / Total Diameter.
In diamonds, the length-to-width ratio is calculated by dividing the length of the diamond by its width. It is the comparison of length and the width for a fancy shape diamond. Length-to-width ratio in diamond reflects their appearance when viewed from the top. A ratio of 1.0 specifies that a diamond is perfectly square or round.
